we can tell whether you’re married or single by what you eat for lunch

Almeurzo Campesino: $13

includes rice, beans, picadillo, torta de huevo, chicken, and tortilla. served wrapped in a plantain leaf

traditionally, this is the working single persons’ lunch, all mixed up together and carried in the plantain leaf wrapper for easy transport, since single people didn’t have tupperware apparently.

Casado: $15

includes rice, beans, salad, picadillo, maduros (sweet plantain), avocado, and a choice of either chicken, fish, or fried eggs

this is the lunch of a married person (casado means married in english), because it was a more complete meal and presented on a plate with care taken by the person who prepared it for their spouse.

 

Between Two Slices:
